Summary:

All four elementary schools in Transylvania County Schools — Brevard Elementary, Pisgah Forest Elementary, Rosman Elementary, and T C Henderson — serve grades PK-5 in the mountains of western North Carolina and together educate roughly 1,432 students in a district rated 4 stars and ranked 55th of 246 districts statewide.

Rosman Elementary is the clear standout, ranking in the 83rd percentile of North Carolina elementary schools with the highest average EOG proficiency in the group at 73.3%; it posts particularly strong 5th-grade results in reading (75.8%), math (72.6%), and science (77.4%). Pisgah Forest Elementary finishes second overall and owns the single highest subject score in the dataset — 84.9% proficiency in 4th-grade math — though its 5th-grade scores dip well below that level. Brevard Elementary is the largest school and the most improved, jumping from the 39th to the 58th percentile in state rankings in just one year, with broad gains across reading, math, and science. T C Henderson, the smallest school at just 133 students, posts the district's lowest chronic absenteeism (17.5%) and solid 4th-grade reading (73.7%) but still struggles in 3rd-grade reading at 44.4%.

Districtwide, all four schools improved their state percentile rankings between 2023-24 and 2025-26, signaling coordinated progress. Fourth grade is a collective strength — district averages reach 73.4% proficiency in math and 69.3% in reading, outpacing state averages by significant margins. Fifth-grade math is the relative weak spot, with the district average (60.5%) slightly below the state (62.9%). Notably, spending does not predict performance: T C Henderson spends the most per pupil at $14,225 yet trails Rosman Elementary, which spends just $10,924. High poverty does not determine outcomes here either — every school has over 97% of students eligible for free or reduced lunch, yet nearly all test scores exceed state averages.
