Rockingham, North Carolina is served by seven schools in the Richmond County Schools district, a system ranked in the bottom quarter of North Carolina districts with a 1-star rating. The city has four elementary schools (L J Bell Elementary, East Rockingham Elementary, Washington Street Elementary, and West Rockingham Elementary), one middle school (Rockingham Middle), one traditional high school (Richmond Senior High), and Ashley Chapel Educational Center, an alternative school serving grades 6–12. The strongest results come from L J Bell Elementary and Rockingham Middle.
