Mendenhall High School

Mendenhall High School is a mid-sized public school in Mendenhall, MS, serving 646 students in grades 7 through 12 within the Simpson County School District. The school serves a high-poverty community, with nearly 86% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, a rate comparable to nearby Magee High School but far higher than schools just a short drive away in the Rankin County School District. Mendenhall currently ranks in the bottom 14% of Mississippi high schools, and its state ranking has declined steadily over the past five years.

The contrast with nearby Rankin County schools highlights how attendance, poverty, and district resources shape outcomes. For Mendenhall to improve, addressing chronic absenteeism and providing extra academic support in middle school will likely be critical.
