North Woolmarket Elementary and Middle School

North Woolmarket Elementary and Middle School serves 851 students in grades K-8 in the Woolmarket area of Biloxi, MS, and is part of the Harrison County School District. The school is a genuine academic powerhouse: it ranked #4 out of 377 Mississippi schools in 2025-2026, placing it in the 99th percentile with a 5-star rating. This is not a one-year fluke. In every year of available rankings dating back to 2015-2016, the school has finished in the top 10 statewide and earned 5 stars every single year, peaking at #2 in 2021-2022.

North Woolmarket outperforms every nearby school by a wide margin. Among comparable schools, North Bay Elementary School in the Biloxi Public School District ranks #31, Lyman Elementary ranks #33, and Creekbend Elementary And Middle ranks #37—all strong schools, but all roughly 25-30 places behind North Woolmarket. Test scores tell the same story: 3rd grade math proficiency is 89.1% (state average: 48.8%), 3rd grade ELA is 87.5% (state: 48.5%), and 5th grade science hits an extraordinary 97.8% (state: 71.5%). The contrast with nearby Woolmarket Elementary, just 3.5 miles away, is especially striking—that school's 3rd grade math proficiency is just 36.0%.

Part of the school's success appears linked to its demographics and attendance. About 47% of students qualify for free/reduced lunch—roughly half the rate of nearby schools like Bel-Aire Elementary (98.5%) and Crossroads Elementary (99.1%). Chronic absenteeism is 15.4%, well below the district and state averages. The one area needing attention is middle school literacy: 7th grade ELA proficiency is 52.8%, much lower than the school's elementary grades. Even so, for families in the northern Biloxi/Woolmarket area, this school stands as an elite option with remarkable decade-long consistency.
