Summary

Wesson Attendance Center is a K–12 public school in Wesson, Mississippi, serving 833 students in the Copiah County School District, making it the largest of five nearby attendance centers. The school has a student-teacher ratio of about 14.5 to 1, and 100% of its students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch—a much higher poverty rate than neighboring West Lincoln School (61.2%), Bogue Chitto School (68.1%), Enterprise Attendance Center (64.5%), or Loyd Star Attendance Center (67.5%). Despite this, Wesson achieves competitive—and sometimes superior—academic results.

Math and science are clearly Wesson's strong suits. Average math proficiency across grades 3–8 was 70.8% in 2025–2026, nearly tying West Lincoln School's 70.7% and far outpacing Loyd Star Attendance Center's 33.7%. Third-grade math hit 81.2% proficiency, roughly 33 points above the state average. In science, 86.9% of 5th graders were proficient in 2025–2026—the highest among all comparison schools—and Biology end-of-course results reached 88.4%, well above the state's 63.1%. Wesson also consistently beats its district averages by wide margins; 5th grade math, for instance, was 82.6% compared to the district's 58.7%.

The main area of concern is English Language Arts. Middle school ELA scores have been inconsistent, with 8th grade proficiency at 35.2% in 2025–2026, and English II dropped to 41%, below the state average of 49.3%. The graduation rate also slipped to 84.1% in 2024–2025, down from 90.8% the prior year and below the state's 89.2%. On a positive note, chronic absenteeism is just 16.8%—better than the district's 22.7% and the state's 23.9%. Overall, Wesson proves that economic disadvantage does not have to limit achievement, especially in math and science, though secondary literacy is worth watching.

Open Quote The faculty and staff at Wesson Attendance Center go above and beyond for their students. They are excellent instructors for ALL children's needs. There is no other school out there that I would want my child to attend. The teachers at WAC don't have an outpouring of help or resources, they don't have brand new facilities, and they don't have classrooms full of children who should have the background knowledge most 5 year olds should start out with. This does not hinder them in any way. They use the resources they do have, and use creative substitutes for the resources they don't. The staff works tirelessly to teach kids, catch kids up, and keep them on task everyday, all day. It is such a wonderful feeling to know that I have people I can intrust my child with everyday. People who are not family or friends, but love and protect my child like they are family. These people are the talented and loving staff at Wesson Attendance Center. Close Quote
