Despite serving a student population where about two-thirds qualify for free/reduced lunch, Armstrong has achieved results that exceed state averages — a meaningful equity story. However, two challenges remain. Chronic absenteeism, at 23.6%, affects roughly 1 in 4 students, more than double the pre-pandemic rate of 11.1%, though it's slightly better than Partnership Middle School's 24.8% and equal to Fifth Street School's rate. Overstreet Elementary School has a notably lower rate at 14.7%. English Language Arts remains the school's relative weak point, though it still beats the state average. If Armstrong can improve attendance and strengthen literacy instruction, it has the potential to become one of Mississippi's strongest middle schools.
