The Franklin County School District serves 1,147 students across four schools — Franklin Lower Elementary (PK–3, 379 students), Franklin Upper Elementary (grades 4–6, 234 students), Franklin Middle School (grades 7–8, 157 students), and Franklin High School (grades 9–12, 377 students) — in a rural Mississippi community where every school serves a high-poverty population, with 77.8% to 82.1% of students eligible for free/reduced-price lunch, and the district overall ranks 84 out of 134 Mississippi districts (37th percentile) with a 2-star rating.

The district's strongest early-grade results come from Franklin Lower Elementary, where 3rd grade math proficiency hit 71.4% in 2024–2025 versus the state's 53.3%, and 3rd grade ELA reached 63.0% versus 49.4%. However, these early gains fade dramatically by upper elementary: 5th and 6th grade math proficiency at Franklin Upper Elementary ranges from 27.1% to 31.5%, roughly 21 points below the state. Franklin Middle School posted a bright spot in 8th grade science (61.4% vs. 54.7% in 2024–2025) but saw ELA decline across both 7th and 8th grades, and its rank slipped from the 47th to 35th percentile. Franklin High School has a graduation rate of 89.1%, nearly matching the state, and outperformed the state in U.S. History, but its rank fell to the 26th percentile with a 1-star rating in 2025–2026.

Chronic absenteeism is a major concern at the high school, where 28.5% of students are chronically absent — well above the district rate of 21.4% and the state rate of 23.9% — while both elementary schools sit below those rates. The district also shows inconsistent year-to-year performance, with 3rd grade math dropping 19.1 points between school years even as 7th grade math improved by 10.9 points. For parents, the key takeaway is that Franklin Lower Elementary offers a strong early foundation, but the district struggles to sustain math achievement through grades 4–6, and Franklin High School needs focused attention on attendance and end-of-course performance in Biology and English II.
