Summary:

Glen, Mississippi, is served by three public schools — Alcorn Central Elementary School (PK-4), Alcorn Central Middle School (5-8), and Alcorn Central High School (9-12) — which together form a complete K-12 pipeline within the Alcorn School District, a 4-star district ranked 26th out of 134 in Mississippi.

The standout school in Glen is clearly the middle school. Alcorn Central Middle School has ranked in the top quartile of Mississippi middle schools for three straight years (75th percentile in 2025-2026) and is particularly strong in math, with 7th-grade proficiency at 71.4% versus 57.7% statewide. The elementary school is also impressive, jumping from the 62nd to the 73rd percentile in one year despite serving a student body where nearly 72% qualify for free/reduced lunch. Its 4th-grade math proficiency (72.9%) is 21 points above the state average, and its chronic absenteeism rate of 13.4% is the lowest in Glen. By comparison, Alcorn Central High School is the only 3-star school in the city (56th percentile), even though it has the lowest poverty rate (60.6% free/reduced lunch). Its graduation rate is excellent at 94.3%, well above the state's 89.2%, and Algebra I proficiency reached 81.1% in 2024-2025, but chronic absenteeism is a severe concern: 31.0% of students were chronically absent, nearly double the state average and more than double the rates at the elementary and middle schools.

The biggest academic red flag is the transition into middle school. In 5th grade, math proficiency at Alcorn Central Middle School was just 34.5% versus 49.6% statewide, and ELA was 48.2% versus 55.8%. By 7th grade, those same students bounce back strongly. At the elementary level, 4th grade improved dramatically while 3rd-grade math slipped, suggesting cohort differences worth watching. At the high school, U.S. History proficiency (60.2%) lags the district and state by about 8 points. Overall, Glen has a solid school system with a strong middle school and an improving elementary, but the high school's attendance problem and 5th-grade transition struggles represent the clearest opportunities for targeted support.
