Summary

Margaret Buerkle Middle is a public middle school located in Saint Louis, Missouri, serving 556 students in grades 6-8. The school is part of the Mehlville R-IX school district, which is ranked 62 out of 367 districts in the state and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

While the Mehlville R-IX district and nearby schools like Washington Middle and Oakville Middle have consistently outperformed Margaret Buerkle Middle in academic measures, the school has faced several challenges. Its standardized test scores have been significantly lower than the district and state averages, and its performance has declined over the years, dropping in the statewide ranking from 283 out of 454 Missouri middle schools in 2020-2021 to 179 out of 438 in 2024-2025. The school has also struggled with high rates of chronic absenteeism, ranging from 15.6% to 30.0% over the past few years.

However, Margaret Buerkle Middle has shown some strengths in supporting specific student subgroups, such as African American and English Language Learner students, suggesting the school may have effective strategies in place for these populations. Addressing the overall academic challenges and the high chronic absenteeism rates could be crucial for improving the educational outcomes at Margaret Buerkle Middle and helping it catch up to the performance of nearby higher-achieving schools.

Open Quote Admin is weak in managing teachers and too many teachers dont care about teaching children how to learn. Focus is too high on teaching to the test and not in teaching children the needed lessons to succeed later in school life. Lets face it, middle school content is not rocket science. Any high school graduate has the knowledge needed to teach the content matter. The teachers job is to teach the student how to learn later when the content gets more difficult. Most Buerkle teachers do not have that ability and lack leadership and guidance from administration. All around, a "poster child" for home schooling.
I hope the high school is better... Close Quote
