Summary

Gladstone Elementary is a public elementary school in Kansas City, Missouri, serving 403 students in grades PK-6. The school is part of the Kansas City 33 school district, which is ranked 305 out of 367 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Gladstone Elementary faces significant challenges, including consistently high chronic absenteeism rates ranging from 28.4% to 55.0% over the past few years, which is significantly higher than the state average and the rates of nearby schools like Trailwoods Elementary, Rogers Elementary, and James Elementary. Additionally, the school's test scores are consistently lower than the state and district averages across all grade levels and subjects, with proficiency rates ranging from 16.4% to 25.1% in Mathematics and 10.5% to 26.2% in English Language Arts, compared to state averages of 38.2% to 45.5% and 39.3% to 44.8%, respectively.

While Gladstone Elementary ranks highly (top 30-50%) for African American and English Language Learner students, it ranks very low (bottom 10-20%) for Asian and White students, suggesting the need for more targeted and differentiated instructional strategies. Despite a significant increase in spending per student, from $14,927 in 2018-2019 to $21,090 in 2020-2021, the school's academic outcomes have not shown a corresponding improvement, raising questions about the effective allocation and utilization of resources. Addressing the root causes of the school's challenges, such as chronic absenteeism and uneven performance across student subgroups, will be crucial for Gladstone Elementary to improve its educational outcomes.

Open Quote The way they deal with their special needs kids is to call the parents and send them home. This school needs better resources and better training to help take care of kids with ADHD, anxiety, and other neurological disorders. Our child is in another school now and doesn't exhibit any of the negative behaviors she did while at Gladstone. Close Quote
