Summary

Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton Sec is a public school in the small southern Minnesota community of Janesville, serving grades 7–12 with 312 students as part of the Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton district. It is a solid, clearly improving 3-star school: in 2025–2026 it ranked 167th of 473 Minnesota high schools, the 65th percentile, up from 348th of 428 and just the 19th percentile in 2020–2021. The district itself ranks higher, at the 87th percentile with 4 stars.

Academically, the school's strengths are math and reading. All-grade math proficiency was 49.6% and reading 53.7% in 2025–2026, both above the state (44.9% and 48.6%) and higher than nearby traditional high schools including Mankato East Senior High, Waterville-Elysian-Morristown Senior, Waseca Senior High, and St. Clair Secondary. Science is the softer spot: 25.3%, essentially at the state's 25.5% but below the district's 32.0% and below Mankato East, Waseca Senior, and Waterville-Elysian-Morristown. Middle school is a real engine — 8th-grade math was 66.7% versus the state's 42.3% and 8th-grade reading 61.5% versus 50.0% — while 11th-grade math (31.4% vs. 35.3%) and 8th-grade science (12.8% vs. 16.7%) lag.

Graduation outcomes are excellent: 98.5% of students graduated and 1.4% dropped out in 2024–2025, far better than the state's 84.9% and 4.2% and the strongest among the comparable traditional schools listed. Staffing is favorable too, at 12.4 students per teacher — the lowest among those traditional peers — with 26.28% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch. Students from low-income families have performed relatively well, ranking in the 69th percentile recently, though the latest available special education subgroup figure, from 2022–2023, was a clear concern.
