Summary

Greenwood Elementary is a K–5 school in Plymouth, Minnesota, serving 762 students as part of the Wayzata Public School District, one of Minnesota's strongest districts, ranked 10th of 458 statewide. Greenwood Elementary itself earned 5 stars and ranked 57th of 869 Minnesota elementary schools in 2025–2026 — the 93rd percentile. That is still excellent, but it is a step down from the school's own history: from 2016–2017 through 2021–2022, Greenwood sat among the top 10–17 schools statewide, in the 98th–99th percentile.

Academically, math is the bright spot. In 2025–2026, 78.2% of students were proficient in math, above both the district (72.4%) and the state (44.9%). Reading (65.1%) and science (38.1%) came in below the district — 71.4% and 44.3% respectively — though both remain above state averages. Science has declined sharply, from about 57% three years ago to 38.1% now. Grade-level results show 3rd grade math is very strong at 85.6%, while 5th grade math (67.3%) falls below the district, and reading is below the district average at every grade. Among nine nearby Wayzata elementary schools, Greenwood ranks 6th — ahead of Birchview Elementary, Oakwood Elementary, and Sunset Hill Elementary, but behind North Woods Elementary School, Meadow Ridge Elementary School, Gleason Lake Elementary, Plymouth Creek Elementary, and Kimberly Lane Elementary.

Greenwood's poverty rate is low, at about 10.24% free/reduced lunch, yet several nearby schools with higher poverty rates post stronger reading and science results, so demographics alone do not explain the gap. Subgroup effectiveness is uneven: results for low-income students fell to the 27th percentile (1 star) in 2024–2025, and those for special education students dropped from the 93rd percentile in 2023–2024 to the 53rd in 2025–2026. Compared with nearby non-Wayzata schools, Greenwood still stands out — it outperforms Basswood Elementary in the Osseo Public School District and Zachary Lane Elementary in the Robbinsdale Public School District.
