Rothsay Secondary is a small rural school serving about 140 students in grades 7–12 in Rothsay, a community in Otter Tail County, Minnesota, and it serves as the secondary campus of the Rothsay Public School District. Its standout strength is completion: 95.6% of students graduated in 2024–25 against a state rate of 84.9%, and the school has now posted three consecutive years with a 0.0% dropout rate. That marks a dramatic turnaround from 2021–22, when the graduation rate was 68.7% and 18.7% of students dropped out.

Academically, the picture is more mixed, and results vary a great deal by grade. On 2025–26 state tests, Rothsay's proficiency trailed Minnesota in all three subjects — math 41.3%, reading 39.7%, and science 15%, with science the clearest weakness. Yet eighth and eleventh graders beat the state in math by double digits (52.4% and 45.8%), and 11th grade math essentially matches Kennedy High School in nearby Fergus Falls.
