Viking Elementary School is the PK–6 campus of Pelican Rapids Public Schools in Pelican Rapids, a small rural community in west-central Minnesota, serving 468 students — 57.7% of whom qualify for free or reduced-price lunch — with the lowest student-to-teacher ratio (11.3 to 1) of any nearby school compared here. The district as a whole is relatively well regarded, but the elementary school's own standing is lower: 564th of 869 Minnesota schools for 2025-2026, or 35th percentile with 2 stars, down from 3 stars and the 54th percentile the year before and far below its brief 4-star peak in 2020-2021.
