Summary

Roosevelt High is a public high school in Minneapolis, Minnesota, serving 1,121 students in grades 9-12. The school is part of the Minneapolis Public School District, which is ranked 300 out of 446 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Roosevelt High has faced academic challenges, with proficiency rates in MCA-III Math and Reading assessments generally lower than state and district averages. For example, in 2024-2025, the school's 11th-grade Math proficiency rate was 36.32%, compared to the state average of 34.96% and the district average of 31.18%. The school's graduation rates have also fluctuated, ranging from 67.8% to 84.2% over the past few years, while dropout rates have ranged from 3.8% to 6.8%. Performance varies significantly across different student subgroups, with White students performing relatively well, while Hispanic, English Language Learner, African American, and Special Education students struggle.

The high percentage of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds at Roosevelt High, ranging from 52.9% to 60.48% over the past few years, likely contributes to the school's academic challenges. Nearby schools, such as Heritage Academy High, Longfellow Alternative High, and South High, also face similar academic struggles, but Roosevelt High generally outperforms these schools in terms of graduation and dropout rates. Targeted interventions and support, as well as exploring best practices from higher-performing schools, could help address the disparities and drive consistent improvement at Roosevelt High.

Open Quote Roosevelt has been a great school for our child. The arts programming is fantastic and includes one of the best choir teachers I have ever known. The IB program provides rigorous academics for students who are interested. The relatively small size (under 1000) lets teachers and administrators really get to know the kids. In fact, the principal stands outside each morning and greets kids by name. Roosevelt teachers, staff, and students are building a lovely community of learners. Close Quote
