Summary

Crookston Secondary is a public high school serving grades 6-12 in Crookston, Minnesota, with a student enrollment of 616. The school's statewide ranking has fluctuated over the past few years, ranging from a high of 103 out of 476 Minnesota high schools in 2022-2023 to a low of 325 out of 450 in 2024-2025.

Crookston Secondary's academic performance is generally below state averages, with proficiency rates in math and reading around 30-50% compared to the state's 45-50%. The school also has a slightly lower four-year graduation rate of 82-84% and a higher dropout rate ranging from 4.4% to 14.1% in recent years. Additionally, Crookston Secondary has a relatively high percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, suggesting a higher proportion of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds. The school's student-teacher ratio of 15-17 is also higher than nearby Northern Lights Academy (8.9) and Lafayette Secondary (12.1).

Compared to nearby schools, Crookston Secondary generally underperforms on test scores, graduation rates, and other key metrics. For example, Lafayette Secondary stands out as a higher-performing school in the region. Crookston Secondary's inconsistent performance and resource challenges, such as its high percentage of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds and relatively high student-teacher ratio, may be contributing factors to its struggles. Addressing these issues could be crucial for improving student outcomes at the school.

Open Quote It's certainly not the best school in the world. The students don't participate in assignments much and textbooks are old. The teachers limit students (my opinion) only to nearby colleges and I think, that is the worst part of this school. The teachers are not so "top class." They're just average Close Quote
