First, results vary sharply by grade: the departing 5th grade beats district averages by 6–9 points, while 3rd and 4th graders currently trail the district in both math and reading — a cohort pattern rather than a school-wide one. Second, special education slid from the 56th percentile in 2024–2025 to the 29th percentile (1 star) in 2025–2026, the clearest warning signal here. On the plus side, class size has improved each year (17.5 → 16.6 students per teacher), reading has held steady while the district's fell, and the school produces strong results for its low-income and English-learner students.

We were aware of the ecellent education programs in place in Lino Lakes but Blue Heron almost seems to go above and beyond what we expected. Every teacher cares about their students, even after they have moved on to the next grade. The programs offered by Blue Heron are terrific. Our child does the before school care a few days a week and that includes wonderful field trips, daily activities that teach (I have heard horror stories about before and after school care programs) rather then occupy, and the instructors for this care are wonderful with the students.
