Browns Valley Middle is a small, rural school in Browns Valley, Minnesota — a west-central community near the South Dakota border — serving grades 5–9 with 77 students, about 15 to 19 per grade, as the only school in the Browns Valley Public School District. Notably, students from low-income families rank in the 68th percentile statewide, well above the school's own 47th, and other student groups measured also rank above the school overall, suggesting the school reaches students who often struggle elsewhere. Over eight years the school climbed from the 14th percentile (1 star) to a peak of 67th percentile (3 stars) in 2022–23. The student–teacher ratio also rose from 14.0 to 19.8, which is worth watching.
