Spectrum High School is a grades 9–12 school in Elk River, Minnesota, serving about 502 students and operating as its own district. In 2025–2026 it ranked 95th of 473 Minnesota high schools (80th percentile, 4 stars), which keeps it in the top fifth of the state but marks a notable slide from 2024–2025, when it was 30th of 450 (93rd percentile, 5 stars). Its earlier run was stronger still: 19th of 480 (96th percentile) in 2023–2024, 17th of 476 (96th) in 2022–2023, and a peak of 6th of 494 (99th percentile) in 2017–2018.

Completion results are a clear strength. Spectrum's 2024–2025 graduation rate was 95.5% versus 84.9% statewide, and its dropout rate was just 1.1% versus 4.2% statewide — better than every nearby school with reported data, including Rogers Senior High (94.4% and 2.3%) and Elk River Senior High (88.4% and 3.4%). Test scores are mixed: reading (55.5%) and science (39.6%) both beat state averages, while all-grade math (37.5%) trails the state's 44.9%; at 11th grade, Spectrum's 37.5% is above the state's 35.3%. The reading exam changed in 2025–2026, but math and science declined on unchanged exams.

Compared with neighbors, Spectrum's reading result was the highest reported (Pact Charter Secondary 53.9%, Rogers Senior High 51.9%, Elk River Senior High 36.6%), and science was near the top, but math was the lowest among them (Rogers 56%, Elk River Senior High 43.1%, Pact 41.8%). Subgroup results were uneven: female students ranked in the 85th percentile, male students 71st, low-income students 68th (down from 99th), and special education students 50th. With 502 students, a 16.6 student-teacher ratio, and 14.74% free/reduced lunch, Spectrum remains a competitive choice whose main academic gap to watch is math.
