Elk River Public School District (ISD 728) covers 22 schools across the northwest Twin Cities suburbs — 10 elementary schools, 5 middle schools, 6 high schools, and 1 alternative school — serving roughly 14,175 students. The district is one of Minnesota's strongest, ranked 37th of 458 districts (92nd percentile) with 5 stars, and it beats state averages in math (60.5% vs. 44.9%), reading (59.3% vs. 48.6%), and science (30.1% vs. 25.5%). Its 89.0% graduation rate also tops the state's 84.9%, with a lower dropout rate (3.7% vs. 4.2%).

Rogers-area schools stand out. Rogers Middle School is the district's top performer — 19th of 546 middle schools (97th percentile, 5 stars), with 70.4% math and 66.6% reading. Among elementaries, Rogers Elementary has the highest math score at 79.3%, Twin Lakes Elementary the highest reading at 71.9%, Prairie View Elementary ranks 56th of 869, and Meadowvale Elementary leads elementary science at 40.4%. Rogers Senior High posts a 94.4% graduation rate and the best math/reading combination among high schools, while Zimmerman High School has the top high-school science score at 45.3%. Salk Middle School improved to 84th of 546.

Science is the clearest gap: Vandenberge Middle School posts just 10.6%, with Zimmerman Middle at 19.3% and Salk at 21.1%. Elk River Senior High is strong in science (39.7%) but weak in reading (36.6%), below district and state averages. Ivan Sand Community High School has a 23.8% graduation rate and 21.4% dropout rate, and several alternative/online schools have suppressed scores that shouldn't be compared directly to comprehensive schools. Poverty correlates with outcomes but isn't destiny: Lincoln Elementary, with 45.67% free/reduced lunch, still matches district reading at 59.3%.
