Central Middle is the standout of the two, ranking 42 of 546 Minnesota middle schools in 2025–2026 — the 92nd percentile — with 5 stars. It also earned 5 stars the year before at 30 of 519 (94th percentile), after a 4-star showing the year before that. Its all-grade proficiency beats both the district and the state in every subject: Math 52.6 (district 48.6, state 44.9), Reading 64.6 (district 54.1, state 48.6), and Science 26.7 (district 26.3, state 25.5). Its highest results are 8th grade Reading at 68.4, 8th grade Math at 59.3, and 6th grade Reading at 67.4.

Mariner Middle School is a solid above-average option, ranking 122 of 546 — the 78th percentile — with 4 stars. It improved in all three all-grade subjects from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026: Math from 38.35 to 45.3, Reading from 48.59 to 53.2, and Science from 16.24 to 16.8. It is above the state in Math and Reading, but trails the district in all three subjects, and Science (16.8) sits well below the district’s 26.3 and the state’s 25.5. Mariner also serves a higher free/reduced-lunch population (38.93% versus 19.31%) and has a lower student-teacher ratio (17.5 versus 19.6), yet Central still leads by 7.3 points in Math, 11.4 in Reading, and 9.9 in Science.
