Summary:
Schools in the Milaca Public School District include four schools serving about 1,639 students: one elementary school covering PK–6 and three high schools covering grades 7–12, with no middle schools in the district. The district is ranked 196 of 458 in Minnesota, the 57th percentile, with 3 stars. Two schools — Milaca Elementary and Milaca Secondary High — enroll 1,595 of those students, roughly 97.3% of the total, so the two smaller high schools account for only a tiny share of enrollment.
Milaca Secondary High has the strongest completion outcomes, with a 94.6% graduation rate and a 1.5% dropout rate, both better than the district (92.7% and 1.9%) and the state (84.9% and 4.2%). Its 8th grade math (55.4% vs 42.3% state), 8th grade reading (58.0% vs 50.0%) and 11th grade math (42.5% vs 35.3%) are clear strengths, but its All Grades math (40.4%) and reading (41.7%) came in below district and state, and its rank slipped from the 65th to the 57th percentile over three years. Milaca Elementary, the largest school at 865 students, has All Grades math of 46.5%, above district and state, but reading of 45.0% trails the state's 48.6%, and science is a serious weakness at 15.7% against district 23.1% and state 25.5%.
The two small high schools are hard to compare. Milaca 7-12 Online has 28 students, the highest student/teacher ratio at 25.2, a 90.0% graduation rate, a 0.0% dropout rate and no public test scores. Milaca Area Learning Center has 16 students, the highest free/reduced lunch rate at 75%, the lowest student/teacher ratio at 8.4, a 70.0% graduation rate, a 10.0% dropout rate and suppressed test scores. Because enrollment is so small, those figures should be read cautiously.
