Summary:

East Central School District in Minnesota is a small district of three schools serving 732 students in grades PK–12, with no standalone middle school — grades 7–8 are housed in the senior secondary — and it ranks 313th of 458 in the state at the 32nd percentile with 2 stars.

East Central Senior Secondary is the district's breakout school this year. Its state rank climbed from 25th percentile / 1 star in 2024–25 to 53rd percentile / 3 stars in 2025–26, and its science results beat both the district and the state — all-grade science 26.7% versus 20.3% district and 25.5% state, and End-of-Course science 37.7% versus 35.0% state. Math and reading remain weak, though: 20.6% and 29.7% against statewide 44.9% and 48.6%, with seventh-grade reading at 17.6% versus 43.5% and eighth-grade math at 20.5% versus 42.3%. East Central Elementary is the largest school at 391 students and posts the district's best math and reading among reporting schools (39.8% each), but its rank has slid three years running (50th to 43rd to 33rd percentile), and its science proficiency sits at just 7.5% versus 25.5% statewide. Third-grade reading, 20.4% against 46.8% state, is another gap.

Crossroads Area Learning Center is tiny at 32 students, with the district's highest free/reduced-lunch rate (71.88%) and highest dropout rate (13.6%), but a graduation rate of 77.2% — slightly above the district's 76.5% and the senior secondary's 76.1%. All of its test scores are suppressed by the state, so its academics are simply unknown here, not proven weak. Districtwide, proficiency trails the state in all three subjects and the 10.9% dropout rate is more than double Minnesota's 4.2%.
