Summary:
Schools in the North Metro Flex Academy district area consist of two schools in North Saint Paul, Minnesota: North Metro Flex Academy, an elementary school serving grades K–6 with 146 students, and North Metro Flex Middle School, serving grades 7–8 with 44 students. Together they enroll 190 students, with about 77% in the elementary school and 23% in the middle school, and both share the same address. There are no high schools or alternative schools in this group.
The two schools are moving in opposite directions. In 2025–2026, the middle school ranked 390 of 546 (29th percentile, 1 star), its best showing in three years, and improved in math, reading, and science compared with the year before. The elementary school fell to 799 of 869 (8th percentile), dropped from 1 star to 0 stars, and declined in all three tested subjects. The middle school led the elementary school in reading (37.0% vs 22.1%) and science (10.5% vs 4.8%), while the elementary school was ahead in math (20.6% vs 15.6%).
Both schools remain well below state averages in nearly every subject. The single exception is 7th grade reading at the middle school, where 44.4% of students were proficient — slightly above the state's 43.5%. Math is weakest in the later grades, with 5th grade math at 9.5% and 8th grade math at 5.3%. Science is the weakest subject overall, at 4.8% in the elementary school and 10.5% in the middle school. Both schools serve predominantly low-income students, with free/reduced lunch near 77–80%, and student-teacher ratios of 11.7 and 11.2. Because the middle school has only 44 students, small changes can shift its percentages noticeably, so its improvement should be read cautiously.
