Summary

North Saginaw Charter Academy is an elementary school serving 596 students in grades K-8 in Saginaw, Michigan. The school has consistently ranked in the bottom quarter of Michigan elementary schools over the past decade, with a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

North Saginaw Charter Academy's academic performance is significantly below the state averages across all grade levels and subject areas. For example, in 2024-2025, the school's proficiency rates in English Language Arts and Math ranged from 21.6% to 34.5%, compared to the state averages of 38.6% to 44.4%. When compared to nearby schools, such as Hemmeter Elementary School, a public magnet school within the Saginaw Township Community Schools district, which had proficiency rates ranging from 75% to 94.55% in the same subjects and grade levels, North Saginaw Charter Academy's academic performance is significantly lower.

North Saginaw Charter Academy also has extremely high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 29.5% to 53.5% over the past few years, which is significantly higher than the state average and the nearby schools. The school serves a student population that is predominantly from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, with 95.47% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. While the school's spending and student-teacher ratios are comparable to the nearby public schools, the data suggests that the school may be facing challenges in engaging and supporting its students, which could be contributing to the poor academic outcomes.

Open Quote I am a student at NSCA and I have been going there for 7 years and this is my last one(did not attend 6th grade). This school has great academics but unfortunately this year many teachers have left in the middle of the year or are absent during the schools days. Seeing that I have seen most of the schools changes would say the way we are currently operating is not good. There is all new authority staff and not surprisingly the middle school isn't cooperating and the "authority" doesn't have any authority. Sadly we,the middle school students, have been through too many changes and are tired of it so we have occupied our time with drama and no ones stopping it making our learning experience minimum. The change in teachers and deans does affect us no matter what the little letter they send home say! This school is trying but right now I DO NOT recognize it to any middle school parents..Sorry. IM sure once the new teachers and staff settle in and put reins on these student everything will work PEEERRRRFECTLY smooth but at least as for elementary it is ABSOULUTELY wonderful!! So that is why I rated 3 stars..Thank you for reading this and I hope it helped :]] Close Quote
