Summary

Ridgely Middle is a high-performing public middle school located in Lutherville, Maryland, serving 1,074 students in grades 6-8. The school consistently ranks among the top 10% of middle schools in the state, with exceptional academic achievements that surpass the Baltimore County and Maryland state averages across all grade levels and subject areas.

Ridgely Middle's students demonstrate impressive proficiency rates, with 40.3% proficient or better in Mathematics and 76.7% proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to the district and state averages. The school also outperforms nearby middle schools, including Sudbrook Magnet Middle, Perry Hall Middle, Parkville Middle, and Cockeysville Middle. The only nearby school that comes close to Ridgely's academic performance is Dumbarton Middle.

However, Ridgely Middle has experienced a significant increase in chronic absenteeism, rising from 13.3% to 28.0% in recent years, which is a concerning trend that the school and the Baltimore County Public Schools district should address. Despite this challenge, Ridgely Middle's consistent top-tier performance, strong resource allocation, and low student-teacher ratio suggest that the school has the potential to maintain its excellence in the coming years.

Open Quote Ridgely Middle coddles students to a shameful degree. As an official school policy, the students are allowed to re-do 90 of assignments. I don't understand in the least how this is a beneficial policy, as it certainly isn't how most high schools and colleges operate, in addition to, oh, REAL LIFE. The bottom line is that the school doesn't have faith that kids can rise to the challenge, so it doesn't even TRY to make them stretch intellectually. It's easier for tired teachers to slap A's on everything and not worry about student and parent complaints. Principal Seth Barish sends his own middle school-age children to a private school. If that doesn't say something, I don't know what does. Close Quote
