Summary

Deer Park Middle Magnet School in Randallstown, MD, is a public magnet school serving 1,127 students in grades 6 through 8 within the Baltimore County Public Schools district, where over 55% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

Deer Park stands out among its Baltimore County peers for its strong performance in English Language Arts (ELA), with 42.2% of students proficient in the 2025-2026 school year—outpacing nearby schools like Woodlawn Middle (38.1%) and Pikesville Middle (26.4%). The school also boasts the lowest chronic absenteeism rate in its area at 18.4%, a stark contrast to Franklin Middle (39.5%) and Pikesville Middle (40.8%). However, the school faces a significant challenge in mathematics, where only 6.7% of students are proficient—far below the district average of 21.9% and a fraction of the rates at nearby schools in Carroll County Public Schools (e.g., Oklahoma Road Middle at 41.7%) and Howard County Public Schools (e.g., Patapsco Middle at 51.1%).

Despite these hurdles, Deer Park is on a positive trajectory, improving its state ranking from the 17th percentile in 2019 to the 37th percentile in 2026. The school is particularly effective for specific student groups, ranking in the top half of the state for African American, Hispanic, Special Education, and low-income students. Its magnet identity differs from that of Sudbrook Magnet Middle, which serves a lower-poverty population and achieves higher math scores. For parents, Deer Park offers a resilient community with strong ELA instruction and improving attendance, but the math crisis remains a critical area to watch.

Open Quote The teachers care about their students. They challenge more than the classic public schools. The academic advancement is well above average. Close Quote

Open Quote My daughter has been enrolled at this school since six grade. Honor student, so they say. Her Md test say different. Today, my daughter being in seventh grade just brought home a A+ graded reading paper that is littered with grammar mistakes, spelling mistakes and answers that do NOT answer the question. Since my question will be rhetorical question and will do nothing but waste everyone's time. I will not bother with a parent teacher conference based on the stated fact above. While I firmly believe you get what you put into it, I also believe the 90% of her education will be coming from home. The other 10% will also teach her what it means when people don't do their jobs.
