Summary

Tunbridge Public Charter School is a PK-8 school serving 493 students in Baltimore, MD, located in the York Road corridor and part of the Baltimore City Public Schools district.

Tunbridge stands out as a high-performing option within its neighborhood, with academic outcomes that are roughly double those of nearby city schools. For the 2025-2026 school year, 60% of students were proficient in English Language Arts (ELA) and 31.7% in Mathematics, far exceeding the district averages of 32.9% and 13.3%. This is a dramatic contrast to schools like Waverly Elementary/Middle (28.7% ELA / 6.5% Math) and Walter P. Carter Elementary/Middle (16.3% ELA / 2.8% Math). The school also has a lower chronic absenteeism rate (21.9%) compared to the district average (46.4%) and neighbors like Yorkwood Elementary (54.2%).

Two standout programs are the 8th-grade ELA and advanced math offerings. The 8th-grade ELA proficiency rate of 82.4% is the highest in the school and far above the state average of 50.2%. In Algebra I, 85.7% of 8th-grade test-takers were proficient, a rate that surpasses even the nearby high-performing Roland Park Elementary/Middle (46.3%). While Tunbridge cannot match the top-tier performance of county schools like Rodgers Forge Elementary (99th percentile) or Stoneleigh Elementary (91st percentile), it offers a stable, high-quality education within the city system, making it a valuable choice for families in the area.

Open Quote I Love this school!! My daughter is in the 5th grade and started here in the 1st. I hear from coworkers, other parents, and teachers from other schools about how great they've heard the school is. I have several friends that have applied and are on the waiting list, or have just gotten in and are impressed with the school as a whole. Tunbridge is the type of school community where, "everybody knows your kids name"...and not because they've gotten in trouble. They have tons of activities that foster parent and student participation..outside of the regular school assembly types we are used to. They have fishing trips, hiking, camping, Arts After Dark (sort of a talent show). They have teamed up with Govans Library, which is a short walk up York Rd., for story time and other activities that the students participate in during the school day, as well as after school closes. Everyone is friendly, the kids are upbeat and happy, the communication is always great, and there is nothing like seeing familiar faces as well as new faces when it comes to the school administration. I spoke to a friend, who was a teacher, has taught as two charter schools and is now a City school administrator (her daughter got into Tunbridge in the fall), to inquire about if the school is really as good as parents think it is from the curriculum standpoint....well she said ABSOLUTELY!!! She gave examples of the curriculum model regular Baltimore city schools us vs. what Tunbridge uses and highlighted what is good about it. I'm impressed, and happy my daughter was able to get in....she will be attending middle school at Tunbridge, which will open the door for her younger sisters to attend pre-K and up there.
