Murdock High School has faced several challenges, including lower-than-average graduation rates, higher dropout rates, and subpar academic performance on standardized tests compared to the state and nearby high-performing schools like Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical and Oakmont Regional High School. The school's four-year graduation rate has fluctuated, ranging from 76.4% to 91.1% in recent years, which is lower than the state average. Additionally, Murdock High School has had relatively high dropout rates, ranging from 4.4% to 13.3%, significantly higher than the dropout rates of some nearby schools.

Murdock High School's MCAS proficiency rates are generally lower than the state averages and the rates of nearby high-performing schools. For example, in 2024-2025, the school's 10th-grade proficiency rates were 39.29% in ELA, 24.07% in Math, and 39.58% in Science, compared to the state averages of 50.66%, 44.6%, and 45.89%, respectively. The school's performance also varies significantly across different student subgroups, with female students and special education students performing relatively better than male students. These findings suggest that Murdock High School may need to focus on addressing the specific needs of underperforming groups and developing targeted strategies to enhance student outcomes.

Open Quote The teachers show a lack of interest in their students and their teaching positions. The biggest problem is turning a blind eye to bullying. They claim to care about the students but when an issue comes up, they turn a blind eye and ignore the situation. The teachers embarrass students in front of others regarding grades and homework. They show preferential treatments towards athletes, scholars, and students from popular families over who they deem to be an underachiever. The administrative staff sets unrealistic goals for students with no concern over their emotional and physical well being. Close Quote
