Norton Middle is a public middle school in Norton, MA serving 527 students in grades 6–8, and in 2025–26 it ranked 209th of 478 Massachusetts middle schools — the 56th percentile with 3 stars. That places it above its own district: Norton ranked 216th of 351, the 38th percentile with 2 stars, so the middle school stands out as a relative bright spot within the district.

Academically, the picture is uneven. ELA proficiency was 40.28%, essentially at the state's 40.03%, and 7th grade ELA (43.23%) was above the state's 39.91%. Math is the clearest weakness: 33.4% proficient versus 41.11% statewide, with 6th grade math at 28.41% against 42.59%. Science (37.64%) also fell below the state's 40.98%, while 8th grade civics was a strength at 49.43%, well above the state's 39.77%. Against the closest same-grade peers — Easton Middle School, Harold L Qualters Middle and North Attleborough Middle — Norton trailed in every subject, with the largest gaps in math and science and the smallest in civics and ELA. It outscored the Taunton middle schools, John F Parker Middle and Benjamin Friedman Middle, and is roughly comparable to Wamsutta Middle School, Robert J. Coelho Middle School and Dorothy L Beckwith.

Resources don't obviously explain the math gap. Norton spent $16,070 per student in 2020–21 — more than Easton or North Attleborough — and its 12.7 student-teacher ratio is better than the Attleboro and Taunton middle schools, though higher than Easton's, Foxborough's and Mansfield's. The school's effectiveness rankings were relatively strong for special education students and low-income students, while other subgroup results trailed the school's overall percentile. One caution for families: the school's rank has slipped from the 63rd percentile in 2023–24 to 56th in 2025–26, with math and science also easing from 2023–24 levels.
