North Andover Middle is the only middle school in the North Andover district, serving grades 6–8 to 1,023 students at 495 Main Street in this Merrimack Valley town, about 25 miles north of Boston and next door to Andover and Lawrence. It ranks 126th of 478 Massachusetts middle schools (74th percentile, 4 stars) and beats the state average in every subject tested — ELA (46.25% proficient vs. 40.03%), math (54.12% vs. 41.11%), science (45.06% vs. 40.98%), and civics (48.61% vs. 39.77%). It also outranks its own district's overall standing (74th vs. 64th percentile), making it a relative strength within the local K–12 system.

Compared with nearby schools, North Andover Middle sits at the top of the middle tier. It comfortably outperforms the Lawrence middle schools a few miles away, and does so while spending $14,847 per student — the second-lowest figure in the comparison and thousands less than some schools it beats. Against its fairer peers in Andover, however, it trails Doherty Middle and Andover West Middle by roughly 21 points in ELA, 17 in math, and 26 in science — and those schools spend $5,000–$6,500 more per student and run smaller classes (student–teacher ratios of 10.9 and 12.0 versus North Andover's 13.4).

First, the school's statewide percentile has slipped three years running (83 → 79 → 77 → 74), and in 2025–26 science fell about 8.5 points and civics about 7 points, with science dipping just below the district average for the first time on record. Grade-level results are uneven: 7th-grade ELA is a clear strength, while 8th-grade ELA sits essentially at the state average. Second, low-income and special education students perform close to the school's own overall percentile, which suggests the school's aggregate results are not being carried by one segment while others lag far behind. At 1,023 students, it is roughly double the size of most nearby middle schools.
