Monson High School is a small public school in Monson, MA, serving 280 students in grades 7–12. It currently ranks 232nd of 353 Massachusetts high schools (34th percentile, 2 stars), down from the 57th–64th percentile range in 2016–2019 and a brief rebound to the 59th percentile in 2022–2023; the Monson district ranks 286th of 351.

Academically, 2025–2026 all-grade proficiency is below the state average in ELA (18.55% vs. 40.03%), Math (28.1% vs. 41.11%), and Science (23.21% vs. 40.98%). Tenth-grade results are stronger but still below state: ELA 38.89%, Math 31.43%, Science 25.0%. Middle-school performance is a major drag, especially 8th-grade Civics at 12.73% versus the state’s 39.77%, and 7th/8th-grade ELA. Compared with nearby schools, Monson’s 10th-grade scores are mixed: it beats Ware Junior/Senior High School, Quaboag Regional High, John J Duggan Academy, and Palmer High on some tests, but trails Minnechaug Regional High, Tantasqua Regional Senior High, Ludlow Senior High, and Pathfinder Vocational Technical on others. Tantasqua Regional Vocational has lower test scores than Tantasqua Regional Senior High but a 99.2% graduation rate.

The most concerning trend is completion and engagement. Monson’s 2024–2025 graduation rate was 80.0%, and its dropout rate was 6.7%—the weakest among conventional nearby high schools. For comparison, Quaboag Regional High had a 92.6% graduation rate and 4.9% dropout rate, Ware Junior/Senior High School had 89.5% and 5.8%, and Minnechaug Regional High had 96.2% and 1.3%.
