Summary

Neighborhood House Charter School is a mid-sized PK–12 charter school at 21 Queen Street in Dorchester, part of Boston, serving 786 students as its own district, Neighborhood House Charter (District), so school and district figures are the same. Nearby schools in the data are all classified as alternative or specialized settings, including Codman Academy Charter Public School about a mile away and Brooke Charter School roughly two miles away.

Academically, Neighborhood House is below the state in every reported MCAS subject and grade in 2025–26. All-grade proficiency was 18.73% in ELA (state 40.03%), 12.23% in math (state 41.11%), and 14.66% in science (state 40.98%). Results have also been sliding: ELA fell from 31.34% in 2022–23 to 18.73%, and math dropped from 24.38% in 2023–24 to 12.23%. The weakest spots are middle school — 7th-grade ELA (5.63%), 7th-grade math (5.71%), and 8th-grade math (9.38%) — while 10th-grade ELA (26.32%) and math (27.27%) are relative strengths but still below state levels. Science and biology are low across grades.

Graduation for 2024–25 was 79.4%, down from 87.8%, and the dropout rate more than doubled to 11.8% from 5.4%. That dropout rate is higher than Codman Academy Charter Public School (5.6%), Brooke Charter School (5.7%), Match Charter Public School (7.9%), Prospect Hill Academy Charter School (3.4%), and Pioneer Charter School of Science (0.0%). Neighborhood House does outperform Codman in all three all-grade subjects and Henderson K-12 Inclusion School Upper in ELA, but trails Match, Prospect Hill, Brooke, and Pioneer in all three. Staffing (10.1 students per teacher) is similar to nearby charters, and 2020–21 spending ($21,393) was higher than Brooke's and Pioneer's, so resources alone don't explain the pattern. Free/reduced-lunch data were not available, and spending figures are dated.
