Lowell, Massachusetts enrolls about 14,336 students across 26 schools — 15 elementary, 7 middle, 3 high, and 1 alternative — and the Lowell district as a whole ranks 273rd of 351 statewide, placing it in the 22nd percentile with a 1-star rating. That district-level rank applies to every school in the list, so it reflects the district's overall standing rather than any single school's performance.

James S Daley Middle School is the brightest spot, ranking 112th of 478 with 4 stars and beating state averages in ELA, math, and civics. Charles W Morey is the most improved, climbing from 556th to 301st in two years with the district's highest math score, while Dr Gertrude Bailey and Kathryn P. Stoklosa Middle School also rank in the middle of the pack. At the other end, Henry J Robinson Middle, Greenhalge, Abraham Lincoln, Bartlett Community Partnership, and James Sullivan Middle School rank in the bottom fifth statewide.

District scores trail the state in every subject: ELA 27.26% versus 40.03%, math 32.38% versus 41.11%, and science 23.00% versus 40.98%. Only three schools exceed the state ELA average, five exceed math, and none meet the science average, making science a district-wide challenge.
