Summary

Caroline Dormon Junior High School in Woodworth, LA, is a public school serving 362 students in grades PK through 8 and is part of the Rapides Parish school district.

This school is a standout academic performer, consistently earning a 5-star rating from Schooldigger and ranking in the top 3% of all elementary schools in Louisiana. Its academic proficiency rates are dramatically higher than both the district and state averages. For example, in the 2025-2026 school year, 94% of students were proficient in English Language Arts, compared to 77% for the district and 70% for the state. In math, 89% of students were proficient, versus 64% for the district and 62% for the state. This level of performance is more comparable to the district's top magnet school, Phoenix Magnet Elementary School, than to its standard neighborhood peers. The school also has an exceptionally low chronic absenteeism rate of just 3.5%, the lowest among all nearby schools and far below the state average of 22.5%.

Caroline Dormon is particularly effective at serving students from low-income backgrounds, ranking 10th out of 685 schools statewide for its performance with this group. While many nearby schools with much higher poverty rates struggle, Caroline Dormon achieves magnet-school-level results without a selective admissions process. One area for potential attention is an 8th-grade math dip, where proficiency drops to 67%, though this is still above the district average of 59%. Overall, the school's consistent excellence across all student subgroups and its remarkable recovery from pandemic-era absenteeism spikes demonstrate a strong, supportive school community that prepares students well for high school.

Open Quote The principal and teachers run this school like a prison. God forbid your child act like a child- they will do EVERYTHING possible to run them off. The school board needs to step in and evaluate these teachers. They are literally bullying children and getting away with it. I don't care what kind of "test scores" this school has- if they can't handle a child being a child, then they shouldn't be teaching. Close Quote
