Summary

EBR Readiness Superintendent Academy is a small, alternative school in Baton Rouge, LA, serving 193 students in grades PK through 12 within the East Baton Rouge Parish school district, which is ranked in the bottom third of Louisiana. The school serves a highly disadvantaged population, with nearly 89% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch, and it faces extreme academic challenges, including a very low graduation rate of 13.5% and alarmingly high chronic absenteeism at 78.2% in 2023-2024.

The most striking feature of this school is its "resource paradox": it has an incredibly low student-teacher ratio of 4.1:1, the lowest among nearby schools like EBR Virtual Academy (7.2:1) and IDEA Bridge (21.7:1), suggesting a high level of individualized attention. However, this investment does not translate into improved outcomes, as test scores are significantly below district and state averages across nearly all subjects. For example, only 26% of students were proficient in English Language Arts in 2025-2026, compared to 64% for the district and 70% for the state. The school's chronic absenteeism rate is more than double the district average (33.4%) and over three times the state average (24.6%), and its graduation rate is the lowest among comparable schools, including its direct peer Northdale Superintendent's Academy (11.4%).

Despite the overall bleak picture, there is a glimmer of hope in 4th grade math, where 41% of students were proficient in 2025-2026, the school's highest proficiency rate in any subject that year. The data also reveals a massive spike in the dropout rate to 40.0% during the 2019-2020 school year, likely reflecting the chaotic transition to remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, which disproportionately impacted the most vulnerable students. Compared to EBR Virtual Academy, which serves a similar-sized population but has a higher graduation rate (53.8%) and lower chronic absenteeism (36.1%), EBR Readiness appears to serve students with more acute, in-person behavioral and attendance challenges, functioning more as a triage center than a traditional academic institution.
