Summary

Spanish Lake Primary School in Geismar, LA, is a high-performing elementary school serving 480 students in grades PK-5 within the highly-rated Ascension Parish school district. This school stands out for its exceptional academic performance, with proficiency rates in Mathematics (87%), English Language Arts (93%), and Social Studies (82%) that far exceed both district and state averages. Spanish Lake has earned a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger for six consecutive years and now ranks in the 96th percentile statewide, placing it 28th out of 690 elementary schools in Louisiana.

What truly sets Spanish Lake apart is its remarkably low chronic absenteeism rate of just 5.4%—less than half the district average and a fraction of the state average. This is the second-lowest rate among nearby schools, trailing only Bullion Primary School's 0.0% rate, and significantly better than Duplessis Primary School (15.0%) and Gonzales Primary School (14.7%). Even compared to its closest neighbor, Dutchtown Primary School (just 1.35 miles away), Spanish Lake outperforms in every subject and has a lower absenteeism rate (5.4% vs. 7.1%). The school also excels at serving all student groups, ranking in the 91st percentile or higher across different demographics, demonstrating consistent effectiveness for every child.

Despite having a higher percentage of economically disadvantaged students (46.25% eligible for free/reduced lunch) than top-performing peers like Prairieville Primary School (37.46%) and Bullion Primary (37.54%), Spanish Lake achieves nearly identical academic outcomes. This suggests the school is particularly effective at helping students overcome socioeconomic barriers. While the school performs very well for low socioeconomic status students (92nd percentile in 2025-2026), this group requires continued attention to maintain its high success. Overall, Spanish Lake's sustained improvement from a 4-star school to a consistent 5-star performer over the last decade makes it a rising star in the area.

Open Quote My two boys and I recently moved to Ascension Parish going on two months now! We had began the year in Tangipahoa Parish (which is also a great school district) However; it doesn't follow the Common Core curriculum. My five year old is in love with his new school! I'd be LIEING if I didn't say he was a little bit overwhelmed coming into a different town, different teacher, new rules, & new curriculum... But in Kindergarten they don't overload your child with homework, they actually work WITH your child, yes.... Real teaching reinforced by our help as parents, this is an amazing school!
