Summary

Heritage Elementary in Waddy, KY, serves 387 students in grades K–5 and is smaller than the nearby-school average of about 472 students. Its 2025–26 results were above the district and nearby-school averages in most subjects, though reading matched the state and science trailed all three comparisons. Most importantly, results declined from the prior year in every subject with comparable scores: math fell 18 points, reading 10, science and writing 7 each, social studies 23, and editing and mechanics 18.

Editing and mechanics was Heritage’s strongest result: 55%, compared with 38% in the Shelby County district, 48% statewide, and 37% at nearby schools. Math was also strong at 51%, versus 38% at nearby schools and 43% statewide. Reading was 50%, matching the state average and exceeding the district’s 45% and nearby schools’ 43%. Its fourth-grade science result was also below the nearby average, while fourth-grade math stood out at 57%, ranking second among nearby schools behind Westridge Elementary.

Heritage remains well placed locally, but its standing has slipped: SchoolDigger ranked it at the 61st statewide percentile in 2025–26, down from the 84th percentile the year before. It tied with Collins Lane for second among nearby schools with rankings, behind Westridge at 76. SchoolDigger’s measure for Hispanic students was at the 20th percentile, 41 points below Heritage’s overall percentile; for special education students, it fell from the 73rd percentile in 2023–24 to the 52nd in 2025–26. Other context: 42% of students were free/reduced lunch eligible in 2024–25, compared with a 55% average at nearby schools, while Heritage’s 16:1 student-teacher ratio was higher than the nearby average of 14.0:1.
