Summary
Bloomfield Middle School serves 296 students in grades 6–8 in Bloomfield, in the Nelson County area. Its results are uneven: writing is a clear strength, while math, reading and science are the main concerns. The most important finding is that proficiency in math, reading and science trails state and nearby-school averages, while writing is above them.
In 2025–26, Bloomfield averaged 24% proficiency in math, compared with 40% statewide, 25% in Nelson County and 42% at nearby schools; in reading, it averaged 30%, versus 48% statewide, 34% in the district and 47.6% nearby. Science was also low at 16%, compared with 28% statewide, 20% in the district and 29% nearby. Writing stands out in the other direction: Bloomfield’s grade 8 result was 58%, above the state’s 48%, the district’s 46% and the nearby average of 49%. Some results are especially low in particular grades: grade 6 math was 19%, and grade 8 reading was 22%, below every nearby school in those subjects.
Recent trends are mixed. Math was roughly flat at about 24% from 2022–23 to 2025–26, but fell from 30% to 24% in the latest year; reading declined from 34% to 30% across the same endpoints. Writing rose from 28% to 58%, though results varied in between. SchoolDigger ranked Bloomfield 267th of 326 Kentucky middle schools in 2025–26, at the 18th percentile with 1 star; its percentile fell 34 points from 2017–18. The student-teacher ratio was 17.4:1 in 2024–25, and 49% of students were free/reduced lunch eligible that year, close to the nearby average of 46%. SchoolDigger’s measures of how well schools serve student groups show notable shifts: the Female Students percentile fell from 35 in 2023–24 to 15 in 2025–26, while the Male Students percentile rose from 9 to 24.
