Summary

Louisville Male High serves 1,763 students in grades 9–12 in Louisville’s Jefferson County. Its 2025–2026 graduation rate was 97%, above the state’s 94% and the district’s 89%. The central concern is that both its test results and its standing among schools have fallen substantially in recent years.

Writing is the school’s clearest strength: 54% of students were proficient, compared with 47% statewide and 32% in Jefferson County. Mathematics was at the state level, at 40%, while Reading was 43%, Science 17% and Social Studies 30%—6, 6 and 7 points below the state, respectively. The school scored above the district in all six subjects, but below nearby Atherton High and duPont Manual High in every reported subject. It scored above Iroquois High where Iroquois had available results.

The decline is visible in both test scores and SchoolDigger rankings: the overall percentile fell from 92 in 2022–2023 to 46 in 2025–2026, earning 2 stars, and Reading proficiency dropped from 57% to 43% over that period. Chronic absenteeism reached 29% in 2025–2026, up from 20% in 2021–2022, despite the strong graduation rate. In 2024–2025, the student-teacher ratio was 19.1, higher than Atherton’s 18.1, Manual’s 16.8 and Iroquois’s 16.0; 46% of students were free/reduced lunch eligible. SchoolDigger’s statewide ranking for Hispanic students was at the 84th percentile, notably above the school’s overall 46th percentile. Its ranking for African American students fell from the 89th percentile in 2024–2025 to the 51st in 2025–2026.
