Middle Schools in Scott County

Scott County has three middle schools serving grades 6–8: Scott County Middle School, Royal Spring Middle School and Georgetown Middle School. Across their ten reported subject-and-grade results in 2025–26, the schools averaged 49% proficient, compared with 42% statewide. The most important finding is the wide difference between schools: Scott County’s overall average was 24 percentage points higher than Georgetown’s.

Scott County stands out at the top, leading in five of the six subject averages; its averages were 55% in Math, 63% in Reading and 81% in Writing. Georgetown was lowest in every subject average, with 34% in Math, 45% in Reading and 38% in Writing. Scott County’s lead over Georgetown was 22 points in Math, 18 in Reading and 43 in Writing. Georgetown was below the state in nine of its ten reported results, though its 7th-grade Science score, 30%, topped the state’s 28%. Royal Spring generally fell between the two, but led in 6th-grade Math (48%) and Reading (66%).

Results across the three schools declined from 52% in 2024–25 to 49% in 2025–26, while the state average fell from 43% to 42%; the schools’ advantage narrowed from 9 to 7 percentage points. Scott County’s average fell by 3 points, Royal Spring’s stayed near 49%, and Georgetown’s dropped by 6 points. SchoolDigger ranked Scott County 28th statewide (5 stars), Royal Spring 86th (4 stars) and Georgetown 218th (2 stars) for 2025–26. In 2024–25, student-teacher ratios were 17.1 at Scott County, 15.1 at Royal Spring and 13.9 at Georgetown; free/reduced lunch eligible figures that year were 53%, 43% and 55%, respectively. Georgetown also had higher chronic absenteeism in 2025–26: 31%, compared with 17% at Scott County and 20% at Royal Spring. These school measures provide context but do not establish why results differ.
