Middle Schools in Jessamine County

Jessamine County has two middle schools, both serving grades 6–8: East Jessamine Middle School and West Jessamine Middle School. Their 2025–2026 results show a clear difference between the schools, although the countywide picture includes both stronger and weaker results. Most importantly, West scored above East and the state in all 10 reported subject-and-grade results.

West Jessamine is the academic standout: its average across the 10 results was 51%, compared with 42% for the state and 41.5% for East Jessamine. West’s scores ranged from 44% in sixth-grade math to 62% in sixth-grade reading, and its biggest leads over East were 19 points in eighth-grade editing and mechanics and 16 points in eighth-grade math. East had a mixed profile: it exceeded the state in four results, including sixth-grade reading (59% versus 54%), but was below the state in six, with its largest gap in eighth-grade editing and mechanics (36% versus 42%).

Results shifted in both directions over time: East’s average rose slightly from 41% in 2024–2025 to 42% in 2025–2026, while West’s fell from 52% to 51%; the state average also declined, from 43% to 42%. SchoolDigger rankings improved for both schools between 2023–2024 and 2025–2026: East moved from 209th of 324 to 174th of 326, and West from 110th of 324 to 75th of 326. West also had a lower student–teacher ratio (16.1 versus 16.8) and lower free/reduced lunch eligible share in 2024–2025 (47% versus 62%). Chronic absenteeism in 2025–2026 was lower at both schools than the state’s 24%, and lower at West than East (16% versus 21%).
