Summary:
Edmonson County has five schools serving students from elementary grades through high school, including separate grades 5–6 and 7–8 schools, with 1,854 students enrolled. In 2025–2026, 19 of 29 reported test results were above the state rate, one matched it and nine fell below; the average advantage was about 3 points. That overall picture hides the most important concern: the 5/6 Center’s four reported fifth-grade results were 16 to 24 points below state.
Kyrock Elementary and South Edmonson Elementary are the clearest standouts: Kyrock averaged 16 points above state across its four reported results, and South averaged 11 points above across five. In direct comparisons, Kyrock led South by 14 points in third-grade math and 13 in fourth-grade math; South led by 4 points in fourth-grade reading. SchoolDigger gives both schools four stars, ranking Kyrock 85th of 684 schools (88th percentile) and South 135th (80th percentile). At the other end, the 5/6 Center averaged 13 points below state, despite sixth-grade math being 7 points above. The middle school averaged 5 points above state, while the high school had a mixed subject profile.
Results weakened overall: the average state-relative advantage fell from about 5 points in 2024–2025 to about 3 in 2025–2026. Average proficiency rose 2 points at South and 1 at the high school, but fell 8 at Kyrock and 5 at the 5/6 Center. Kyrock also has the lowest student–teacher ratio, 14.3, while the 5/6 Center has the highest, 17.7; these figures do not by themselves explain results. The schools’ 2024–2025 free/reduced lunch eligible measures ranged from 55% at South to 70% at Kyrock. For families weighing experience beyond test scores, high school chronic absenteeism was 33%, compared with 24% statewide and 28% in the district.
