Summary:

Paris, Kentucky’s seven schools—three elementary, two middle and two high schools—serve 3,024 students across the Bourbon County and Paris Independent districts, with enrollments ranging from 180 at Paris Middle School to 764 at Bourbon County High School. The clearest overall finding is that proficiency is generally below state results: only 3 of 61 available 2025–2026 school-grade-subject results exceeded the state.

Bourbon County Middle School led Paris Middle School in 9 of 10 same-grade comparisons, including sixth-grade reading, 43% to 21%; Paris Middle’s exception was eighth-grade math, where it led by 1 point. Bourbon County High School led Paris High School in five of six subjects, while Paris High led tenth-grade math by 4 points. At the elementary level, Bourbon Central Elementary led most comparisons, but Cane Ridge Elementary stood out in fifth-grade editing and mechanics (55%, 7 points above the state) and fourth-grade science (32%). Paris Elementary had the lowest fifth-grade writing result, at 6%. Across available results, average gaps from the state were smallest in editing and mechanics (8 points below) and largest in math and writing (15 points below each).

Matched results were nearly flat year over year: the average school result fell by about 1 point from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, with larger shifts in particular subjects. Cane Ridge’s fifth-grade editing and mechanics rose 28 points, while its fifth-grade writing fell 13; Paris Middle’s seventh-grade math fell 26 points. SchoolDigger’s ranking percentile for Bourbon Central rose from 20 to 26 between 2023–2024 and 2025–2026, while Cane Ridge’s fell from 34 to 21; these rankings are not test-score changes. Similar size and staffing do not mean similar subject strengths: Bourbon Central and Cane Ridge enroll 459 and 453 students, with student-teacher ratios of 14.5 and 14.3. Their free/reduced lunch eligible measures for 2024–2025 were 68% and 56%, respectively—context, not an explanation of results. Paris High offers a different trade-off: its graduation rate was 99% versus 95% at Bourbon County High, but its chronic absenteeism was also higher, 39% versus 36%.
