Summary:
Schools in ZIP code 67114 include nine schools—four elementary, two middle, two high and one alternative—with 2025–26 ELA and math results for all nine and science results for five. Across the schools, the equal-weight average was 35% in ELA and 22% in math, compared with statewide results of 46% and 41%; the gaps were 11 and 19 percentage points. Results vary considerably from school to school, but the most important area-wide finding is that math proficiency is especially far behind the state.
Slate Creek Elementary leads the elementary schools in all-grades ELA at 48%, about 2 points above the state. Santa Fe 5/6 Center has the highest reported science result, 48%—9 points above the state—and the highest all-grades math result, 35%, though that is 6 points below the state. At the other end, Opportunity Academy reports 5% in ELA, 0% in math and 7% in science—41, 41 and 31 points below state results, respectively. Its chronic absenteeism rate is also high at 46%, compared with 18% statewide.
Recent changes favor ELA more than math: the school-group ELA average rose 2 points over two years, slightly more than the state’s 1-point increase, while the math average rose by less than 1 point as the state increased 2 points. South Breeze Elementary made the biggest elementary gains, up 8 points in ELA and 9 in math; Slate Creek combines the leading elementary results with a student-teacher ratio of 11.4. A low ratio alone does not indicate higher results: Sunset Elementary has a lower ratio of 10.5 but scores 35% in ELA and 20% in math, compared with Slate Creek’s 48% and 34%. Their free/reduced-lunch rates are 77% and 69%, respectively—useful context, not an explanation of the results. Santa Fe’s strong science result alongside below-state ELA and math also shows why a school’s standing can differ by subject.
