Summary:

ZIP code 66208 has four schools—two elementary schools, one middle school and one high school—all in the Shawnee Mission Public School district. In 2025–26, the schools’ average reported all-grades proficiency was 76% in ELA, 71% in math and 61% in science, compared with Kansas averages of 46%, 41% and 38%. The grade spans differ, so these all-grades figures are a snapshot, not a grade-matched comparison. The main takeaway is that results are strong relative to the state, but the schools are not interchangeable—especially in science, where results range by 24 points.

Prairie Elementary leads the all-grades results, with 85% in ELA, 75% in math and 73% in science; Shawnee Mission East High has the lowest results, at 67%, 64% and 48%. Prairie’s advantage over East is 18 points in ELA, 11 in math and 24 in science. East nevertheless exceeds state results in each subject. Indian Hills Middle is close to Prairie in math and science, at 74% and 72%, and has the strongest recent SchoolDigger ranking history: first in 2023–24, fourth in 2024–25 and first in 2025–26. SchoolDigger placed all four schools in the top 7% statewide in 2025–26. Belinder Elementary is second in all-grades ELA at 76%, but grade-level results show a more mixed picture: Prairie leads ELA in grades 3–5, while Belinder leads math in grades 3 and 6.

From 2024–25 to 2025–26, the four-school average rose 4 points in ELA and 3 in math, while state averages rose 1 and 2 points; the schools’ advantage over the state therefore widened. Science is more qualified: the three schools with results in both years were essentially flat, while the state average fell by 3 points. Individual results also diverged: East gained 11 points in ELA and 9 in math, while Indian Hills science rose 12 points; Belinder and Prairie each fell 6 points in science. Attendance is another notable difference: East’s chronic absenteeism was 29%, about 11 points above the 18% state figure, while the other schools ranged from 7% to 11%. Belinder and Prairie have similar student-teacher ratios of 16.5 and free/reduced-lunch rates of 7% and 6%; Indian Hills’ rate is 14%.
