Summary

Midland Trail is an elementary school in Kansas City, KS, serving 492 students in grades PK-5. It is part of the Turner-Kansas City school district, which is ranked 217 out of 264 districts in Kansas and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Midland Trail faces significant academic challenges, with proficiency rates in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science that are generally lower than the state and district averages. The school's performance is particularly concerning in Science, where its proficiency rate is significantly lower than the state average. However, the school's performance varies across different student subgroups, with African American and Hispanic students performing relatively well, while White students and students with disabilities perform poorly.

Midland Trail also struggles with high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 19.5% to 38.7% in recent years, which is significantly higher than the state average. Additionally, the school has a high percentage of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, with 77.02% to 90.45% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. While Midland Trail's student-teacher ratio is relatively low, and its spending per student is higher than nearby Turner-Kansas City district schools, these resources do not seem to be translating into improved academic outcomes for the students.

Open Quote I would not recommend this school to anyone.
The teachers are mean and are too busy to focus on one child. No cursive, no corrections, no expectations, hardly any homework. I think they only focus on test scores, but don't teach children how to effectively take tests. No grammar, no discipline, and no spelling! We are done!! Close Quote

Open Quote Please don't judge by my rating. I don't feel I know enough about the workings of the school to give it a real rating. The teachers are AWESOME. I'm guessing the teachers are being told HOW they can teach.

This information on this site is wrong. My kids have been attending Midland Trail Elementary since year 2010-2011.

RE: Student Teacher Ratio: There was only 1 class (out of 9) that had less than 20 students for 1 teacher. This year, one of my kids has 26 in his class. This is too much.

Midland Trail no longer teaches Art, Cursive Writing, and Spelling. My son's 4th grade math really confused me. Something about subtracting when you are supposed to be multiplying or dividing????

The teachers are great, but are overextended.

RE: Statistics or Nationality. This site shows there are the same number of Caucasian as Hispanic. Wrong. There have always been only 2 or 3 Caucasian children in each class. I would actually say the classes are 75% Hispanic and then the other 25% make up all the other nationalities. Close Quote
