Maize South Elementary serves 514 students in kindergarten through fourth grade in the Wichita-area Maize district. Its 2025–26 proficiency was above state averages in both English language arts (ELA) and math, but the most important finding is that it trailed most same-district, same-grade peers, especially in fourth-grade math.

ELA is the school’s stronger subject compared with the district and state: 59% of students were proficient, versus 55% districtwide and 46% statewide. In math, 50% were proficient—above the state’s 41% but essentially level with the district’s 50%. Among the five same-district K–4 schools, Maize South ranked fourth in ELA and fifth in math; the peer averages were 63% in ELA and 54% in math. Fourth grade stands out: proficiency was 55% in ELA and 44% in math, compared with district results of 61% and 50%. Fourth-grade math was also 1 point below the state average.
