Summary

Henry Leavenworth is an elementary school located in Leavenworth, Kansas, serving grades K-4 with a total enrollment of 324 students. The school faces significant challenges, with consistently underperforming academic results compared to state and district averages.

Henry Leavenworth's proficiency rates in both English Language Arts (43.58%) and Mathematics (21.64%) are well below the state averages, and the school's performance has declined over the years. The school also has a higher percentage of students from disadvantaged backgrounds, with 61.11% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, and a higher percentage of minority students compared to the state. Additionally, the school struggles with a high chronic absenteeism rate of 42.4%, significantly higher than the state average of 14.1%.

While the nearby Leavenworth district schools also perform poorly, the schools in the Fort Leavenworth district, such as Bradley Elementary and Eisenhower Elementary, significantly outperform Henry Leavenworth and the Leavenworth district as a whole. This suggests that the challenges faced by Henry Leavenworth may be unique to the school and the district, rather than a broader regional issue.

Open Quote As a public school Henry Leavenworth does an excellent job of teaching a basic curriculum. As with ALL schools, including top rated private schools, It is only a tool that should be used by the parents to teach the child or children what they are going to need to become successful and achieve their goals in life. Unfortunately parents don't take the time or effort to assume responsibility for any of their children's education. They believe it is totally up to the school. That is simple not true. Henry Leavenworth has an excellent staff that truly cares about the students. Close Quote
