Summary

Junction City Middle School is a public middle school serving 909 students in grades 6-8 in Junction City, Kansas, which is part of the Geary County Schools district.

While the school has shown some strengths in serving certain student subgroups, such as African American, Hispanic, Pacific Islander, and English Language Learner students, it has consistently underperformed compared to state and district averages on standardized tests. In the 2024-2025 school year, only 31.37% of students were proficient or better in English Language Arts, 37.03% in mathematics, and 33.54% in science, lagging behind the district and state averages. The school's high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 19.5% to 29.6% in recent years, are also a significant concern and likely contribute to the lower academic performance.

Interestingly, Fort Riley Middle School, another school in the Geary County Schools district, consistently outperforms Junction City Middle School and the state averages in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science proficiency rates. Despite spending more per student than the state average, Junction City Middle School's academic outcomes suggest that simply increasing funding may not be the sole solution to improving the school's performance.

Open Quote If I could give this school a 0 I absolutely would. I wish I would have looked at ratings and comments before sending her to this school. We are moving because the education is Kansas is absolutely terrible. They don't concentrate on actual learning subjects, they concentrate on bullying. I know bullying is a huge problem, but so is lack of education. Instead of talking to the kids that are actually doing the bullying they are putting ideas in kids heads. This is education system is worse then Florida's and that's bad. Close Quote
